Does the existing controller need to be upgraded to work with the aircard?

SmartLink Aircards require a compatible SmartLine control panel. To find your SmartLine control panel version, turn the dial down to the Advanced Functions Menu, press Down a few times to ABOUT and press Next. If you see MODEL, press Down once to VERSION and press Next.

• SmartLink is supported by SmartLine control panel versions 3.10 and greater. If you have version 3.30 or greater, no changes are required.
• SmartLine control panels that are older than 3.10 cannot be used and will require a new panel. Panels can be purchased through your Authorized Weathermatic Distributor. It is not necessary to replace the entire controller. You can simply remove the panel from the hinge and replace with a new compatible panel.

You can also check in the bottom left of your panel for the words "SmartLink Network Ready" meaning it's compatible with a SmartLink Aircard. The picture below shows an example of that.
