Instructions for Rebuilding Diaphragms for Commercial Model Weathermatic Valves
1. A commercial diaphragm assembly consists of a shock cone, diaphragm, diaphragm plate and screw.
2. Weathermatic recommends using Loctite #271 at the female thread in the shock cone. Apply a bead to fill one half the perimeter of the first full thread of the female side. Assembly should be made within 1 minute after applying Loctite.
3. Place diaphragm plate on the top (depressed side) of the diaphragm and hold shock cone to the bottom side of the diaphragm. Insert a screw from the plate side (top) of the diaphragm and tighten into shock cone.
4. Make sure the valve body is clean of any debris.
5. Align the diaphragm assembly onto the valve body. The bleed holes on the diaphragm should be in line with the direction of pipe flow. Do not place the bleed hole crossways to the direction of pipe flow. The shock cone should be facing downwards into the valve body.
6. For plastic valves, seat spring around the internal hex portion of the flow adjust stop of the cover. For brass valves, place the spring on the top of the diaphragm assembly at the center.
7. Place valve cover with spring onto valve body, pressing exhaust stem into the exhaust port of the body. Make sure O-ring is in place on the exhaust stem.
8. Hold cover snuggly down and apply one turn to all the bolts. Then tighten the bolts in star pattern, starting from the left or right bolt at the exhaust port (solenoid end) of the valve.
