Overview of the Compliance Check
As part of our monitoring services, the Watering Restriction Compliance Check ensures that irrigation programs follow the watering regulations set by local water authorities. These restrictions define allowed watering days and times and vary based on jurisdiction—whether at the regional, county, municipal, or city level.
How Restrictions Become Active in SmartLink
- SmartLink displays sites based on their address, and we use the ZIP code as a reference to apply the correct restriction from the database.
- If a restriction already exists, it is applied automatically as long as it is active in the system.
- If a restriction is missing or outdated, it must be verified and updated to reflect the latest regulations.
How a Site Becomes Compliant or Non-Compliant
Once an active restriction is applied to a site, SmartLink automatically checks if the controller’s irrigation schedule follows the restriction’s rules.
✅ Compliant: If the irrigation program matches the allowed watering days and times, the system confirms compliance, and no alerts appear.
❌ Non-Compliant: If the irrigation program does not match (e.g., it waters on extra days or outside the permitted time windows), the system flags the site as non-compliant with a yellow alert and a red "X".
Reasons a Controller Might Be Non-Compliant
A controller is flagged as non-compliant when its irrigation schedule conflicts with the restriction in one or both of these ways:
- Watering Days Issue
- The restriction allows watering only on specific days (e.g., Wednesdays and Saturdays).
- If the controller is scheduled to water on additional days, it becomes non-compliant, even if the watering times are correct.
- Watering Times Issue
- The restriction permits watering only within a set time range (e.g., 12:00 AM - 9:59 AM & 4:00 PM - 11:59 PM).
- If the controller is scheduled outside these hours, it becomes non-compliant, even if the watering days are correct.
How to Fix a Non-Compliant Program
- Click the "Details" button on the site page to open the Watering Restriction Compliance Analysis and see why the program is non-compliant.
- Adjust the irrigation schedule, then save, send, and refresh the site page to apply the changes.
