Where should I install my weather station?
The weather stations should be installed in a location where it is easily able to catch rainfall in the top of the unit. It should also be located in an area with open air flow (a corner between two walls would not be ideal). The weather stations can be placed in either full sun or shade, as it has been designed to record accurate temperature regardless. You'll want to make sure it is in a location away from heat sources such as air conditioning units or chimneys. A good line of site between the controller and the weather station is recommended to good communication.
How far away can I install my weather station?
Wireless weather stations are rated for a maximum of 1,500 ft in an unobstructed line of site from the controller to the weather station. However, a maximum of 600 ft for outdoor installations is typically recommended as different weather conditions and other factors may impede communications.
For installations where the controller is located inside a building, basement or metal vandalism protector, communications are usually good to 200 ft away from the controller. As with all wireless communication devices, the closer the better.
Wired weather stations come with a 35 ft cable, but can be extended to a maximum distance of 3000 ft. Weathermatic offers 100 ft shielded cable splice kits (part number: SLC100) and 1000 ft kits (part number: SLC1000) that include a waterproof shrink jacket.
