Learn how to view the system signal strength in SmartLink Network when configuring a new controller or troubleshooting an existing controller's communications by following the instructions provided below
Step 1: Log In and Select Your Controller
- Go to smartlinknetwork.com and enter your login credentials to access your account.
- On the Site Page, find the search bar and type in and select your Site Name from the search results.
- Then click on the Controller name with the Time Error
-OR- - Locate the Controller List at the top, then find and click the Controller name.
Step 2: Access and View the Signal Information
- From the controller's Home Screen, locate the Signal Strength indicator on the left side.
- The signal strength is represented using four bars, similar to a smartphone.
- Green (3-4 bars) indicates a good signal.
- Yellow (2-3 bars) indicates a fair signal.
- Red (1 bar) indicates a poor signal.
- Click the small "?" icon to the right of the signal bars.
- Review the following details:
- Signal Strength (dBm): -51 dBm is best. In this example, a signal strength of -61 dBm is satisfactory.
- Percentage: 100% is the best; an 83% signal is still acceptable.
- Bit Error Rate (BER): Lower percentages are better. Aim for 0.2% or below.
Step 3: Perform a Signal Strength Test
- Click Receive in SmartLink to update the signal strength data.
- Perform a Stress Test by conducting 10 receives.
- Aim to achieve a minimum of 8 successful receives out of 10.
- If the connection remains poor, adjust the Aircard position:
- Move the Aircard higher using the available cable.
- Perform another receive test and monitor for improvements.
Step 4: Monitor Signal Variations
- Keep in mind that environmental factors may affect signal strength, including:
- Solar radiation
- Cloud cover
- Windy conditions
- Nearby electrical components, power lines, or large shrubs
- Continue testing until the best possible connection is achieved.
